VISITING ST CHAD'S CATHEDRALThere is a programme of pilgrimage visits to the Cathedral from primary schools of the Archdiocese throughout the year. In the school year 2006-7 this involved over 2000 children from 66 schools. The school is taken on a tour of the Cathedral by trained guides, including visiting parts of the building not normally open to the public. The children then usually attend Mass at 12.15pm, when they can participate fully in the liturgy, as readers and altar servers and in the offertory procession. After mass, a room is available for eating packed lunches (usually the Grimshaw Room) and tea and coffee is provided for the teachers. St Chad's Cathedral Giftshop is available in the Grimshaw Room over lunch for the children to buy souvenirs of the Cathedral, piety items and seasonal gifts for Christmas, Mother's Day, St Patrick's Day and Easter.Teachers may wish to visit St Pauls Bookshop, which stocks a wide range of R.E resources.Schools are also welcome to use the garden adjacent to the Grimshaw Room in fine weather. We also warmly welcome non-Catholic schools who may wish to visit us, as well as groups of adults. Tours can be tailored to suit the needs of individual groups. The current cost of a school visit is £50.For further details and to make a booking contact the Education Officer, Sarah Nation, on 0121 230 6215 .
