Twelve pupils reached the final of our SPG Master Chef judged by two Chefs from our catering company AIP and a very worried Headteacher who watched several episodes of Master Chef in the hope of picking up some tips!
We were all astounded by the outstandingly high quality of food prepared with such calm skill. The girls received a Chef hat, an SPG Apron and cookery book as well as full and total admiration from one and all!
Amongst the dishes made were chicken curry with rice and naan bread, a seaside inspired theme to make ice cream cupcakes, using ice cream cones to hold and cook the cupcake and golden castor sugar to decorate as sand. This creative and appealing dish was awarded third place in the final of the competition. Also showcased were Chicken Tikka, stir fry chicken, strawberry cheesecake, salt fish, kedgeree, Thai curry, and chicken fajitas!
A traditional Philippine inspired dish took first place. Gabrielle, in both the heat and the semi-final was organised and kept cool under pressure as she prepared all the different elements of the dish. She made a Chicken and Pork Adobo which was served with homemade tropical coleslaw and lightly spiced rice, the flavour combination of the dish was magnificent. Gabrielle should be really proud of her efforts and this enabled her to achieve St Paul’s Chef of the Year 2014.
Thanks to Mrs Mulry for her superb organisation of SPG Master Chef supported so well by Miss O’Boyle, Mr Earp and Mrs McGlone as well as Louise Parkins, the Area Manager of AIP.
Gabrielle will now go to the final in Worcester in May to compete against the finalists from the other twelve AIP schools. We wish her every luck, not that she will need it, and Miss Casserly commented that she has never tasted such a wonderful dish! Congratulations again to Gabrielle as the St Paul’s Chef of the Year 2014!
