St Chads’ Cathedral is now lit red for a week in honour of the world’s persecuted Christians and for all who suffer for their peaceful beliefs.
#RedWednesday 2018 takes place on Wednesday 28 November, and St Chad’s is floodlit red from Monday 26 November to Monday 3 December to stand up for faith and freedom.
The cathedral is joining many other churches in the diocese and beyond, as well as major landmarks to light up red in solidarity, including Westminster Cathedral and the Houses of Parliament – another building associated with master architect Augustus Welby Pugin.
Locally, staff and students will be wearing red at St Thomas Aquinas Catholic School and Sixth Form; there’s a fundraising event at St Francis of Assisi Catholic Technology College and St Peter’s Church in Walsall will also be lit red.
Saint Rose Of Lima’s parish in Weoley Castle is also lighting up red for Aid to the Church in Need.
#RedWednesday 2018 is an annual event organised by Catholic charity Aid to the Church in Need (ACN), with support from Christian Solidarity Worldwide (CSW).
