Marriage Preparation

Marriage Care

Marriage Care, a Catholic charity, has been committed to the life-long support of marriage and family life for over 70 years.   Marriage Care believes that everyone has the right to the strongest start in their relationship and to this end provides ‘Preparing Together’ workshops to help couples build and sustain strong, fulfilling healthy relationships.    In 2019 Birmingham team’s trained volunteers provided 12 marriage preparation workshops for over 70 couples.

Marriage Care offers two way to prepare for marriages:

  1. ‘Preparing Together’ workshops:   A one day programme run by two trained volunteers for small groups, which takes place on up to 12 Saturdays per year from 09.30 until 16.30.
  2. FOCCUS: Individual couples meet to explore their relationship for two sessions (1½ to 2 hours each) with a trained volunteer facilitator.

We strongly advise that couples apply as soon as possible after booking their wedding date to ensure they are able to gain a place on a workshop at a time suitable to them.   Evidence shows that couples who prepare early in their relationship appreciate the learning experience and are able to make decisions and adjustments of their expectations together before finally making the lifelong commitment to each other in the Sacrament of Matrimony.

Marriage Care also provides a Relationship Counselling service for anyone who feels their relationship is in difficulty and would benefit from dedicated, professional relationship support provided by trained relationship counsellors.

CURRENT CHANGES TO MARRIAGE CARE SERVICESS DUE TO COVID-19

In light of the latest advice on social distancing, Marriage Care has moved to online alternatives using secure webcam and video conferencing technology – just like having face-to-face support except that the meeting with a marriage preparation facilitator or a counsellor is online using a secure video link (similar to Skye or Face Time).  Online options for both Preparing Together workshops and Counselling are now available.  For further information email: appointments@marriagecare.org.uk
